Valentino Rossi – Day 6 (Finished)
Here’s the completed painting. I added Jorge Lorenzo on the third bike, with a grandstand in the far distance. Apart from that, today was just a matter of adding “bling” – specular highlights here and there, smoothing off some jagged edges where they weren’t appropriate, thin highlights on the edges of panels, a few more sponsors logos. I deliberately didn’t include every sponsor’s patch on his overalls, I didn’t feel there was any need.
The final stages are all about creating a balance in the level of detail. It might look like nothing much has changed, but the final stages can still take a long time to complete.
I’m quite pleased with the finished painting. It is more or less what I had hoped it would be and I had a good time doing it. Rule no. 7 is “If you had fun, you won.”
